A female reader, lloida United Kingdom +, writes (4 November 2009):

Well I don't know what type of Christian you are but I am a Catholic. I'm 15 and I went through the same thoughts myself. I couldn't ask my priest or anything because I thought that would be a bit akward, lol. So I look through the Catechism Of The Catholic Church (sad, I know). This contains ALL the rules that Christians have to live by in the modern world. It says that people should not masturbate whatever their age or situation. I don't know about the protestant/quaker/etc. views but in Catholicism it is believed that the pleasure obtained through sex is a gift given from God to married couples for pro-creation and to strengthen their bond of love, therefore this is why you should not masturbate.

There are several ways you can, the easiest is probably using your hand rather than an object of some kind. Just touch yourself and get used to what you like.

A male reader, DoubleM United States + , writes (1 November 2009):

DoubleM agony auntNone of your concerns are valid, and some previous responses, notably by "rhythmandblues2," are excellent. It is ok, and preferable for your own good and future, to do a bit of masturbation and avoid a much more risky sexual relationship with some young dude.

As a Christian, it is perfectly ok to masturbate whenever you need to relieve and overcome your natural desires. Please save yourself for someone who truly loves you, and meanwhile, masturbation is totally acceptable. Be good.

A female reader, SirenaBlusera United States +, writes (1 November 2009):

SirenaBlusera agony auntThe only way to lose your virginity is to have sexual relations. In other words, it requires a penis.

You can't get pregnant from masturbation, and you can't contract HIV or an STD either.

I could be wrong but I don't recall Jesus mentioning it in the Bible. It's natural to have these urges. You sound quite normal to me!

A reader, anonymous, writes (31 October 2009):

No, it's not bad at all. Just because you're a christain (as am I, by the way) doesn't mean that you won't have those urges same sa everyone else. Masturbating is a good way to enjoy yourself and feel good, and relieve those feelings without having to seek those things in another person (boyfriend, random guy, etc.) and go against what you believe.

You can only lose your virginity if you have sexual intercourse with someone, and breaking of your hymen does not mean anything regarding virginity. So, just do it and enjoy getting to know your body more. Someday it will help you and whoever you end up with enjoy things together that you know you want and like. There's no shame in masturbating, christian or not.

A female reader, quiet-echo Canada + , writes (31 October 2009):

quiet-echo agony aunt1. No, it is not bad for a Christian girl to masturbate.

2. No. If it's not bad for a Christian girl to masturbate, then it's fine for everyone else.

3. The only way you can lose your virginity is to have intercourse with a man. An intact hyman is a SIGN of virginity, it is not the definition of it.

The bebefits of masturbation are; it's the safest sex you'll ever have. No risk of pregnancy or disease and it's free.

You should also know it's an effective cure for menstrual cramps. The release of endorphins during arousal and uterine contractions during orgasm actually do eliminate cramps and the effects are almost immediate and lasting.

A female reader, rhythmandblues2 United States + , writes (31 October 2009):

rhythmandblues2 agony auntIt is just fine for a Christian girl to take care of herself in this way, it will help you remain a virgin until you find the love of your life, as most Christians strive for this and most miserably fail because love is never guaranteed....but still it is a very good thing to do to wait.

No you cannot lose your virginity that way. Virginity is never having had sexual intercourse. Even if your hymen were to break, and many girl's do because of all kinds of reasons, that does not make you no longer a virgin....you just happen to be lucky enough not to have to go through some pain on your first time.

Take care dear.
