Is he flirting with me? Does he like me?

A female Canada age 30-35, anonymous writes:

This is how it goes. I just know him this past September through my friend because he always comes over at lunch. Later, we added each other on FB and MSN. I’m not sure if he’s joking or serious or not; but there’s one time that I asked him ‘Have you like someone secretly before?’ and he said, ‘I like you secretly.’ At that moment, I looked at him for a few seconds because I was really confused (I sort of like him so I want to see if he’s joking). Then, he said, ‘I’m joking…’

Though, I really don’t know if he’s really joking or just want to get out of this awkward situation. After that, he occasionally said ‘love you’, ‘that’s why I love you so much’, and so on, until one day, when I said ‘when are you not joking with me?, and he replied, ‘when I said I love you.’ That was really weird for me because he said he was joking but then, he now said he was not joking?? A conversation about all that went on, but ended up him saying ‘it’s fun’ saying that. As a result, I got kind of pissed. After this, he didn’t really dare to say it anymore..

During lunch period at school, I don’t know why he always comes over. All he does is making fun of me (usually my height), bothering me while I’m doing homework, kicking my feet, taking my stuff away, throws eraser bits at me and poking me… My friends say he’s flirting with me, but I’m really not sure. I can’t tell if he does that because he likes me or just entertaining himself. Recently, like last week, he said ‘love you’ on MSN again.

I didn’t take him serious anymore because I told myself that he’s probably joking. Anyways, at lunch, there’s a guy asked him ‘Who would he bring to formal if he’s going?’ and he said ME. I don’t know why so much people asking him the same question that day, but he said ME for all of them. I don’t know why he chose me, but I was quite happy.

The next day, his friend (girl) asked him ‘Can you be my partner for prom?’, I was so alert, worried that he would say yes. But at the end, he didn’t. The thing that bothers me a lot is he keeps flirting with other girls IN FRONT of me. For example, he keeps putting his head on my friend’s (girl, who is also his friend) shoulder, and holding another friend of mine’s hands; all these were done in front of me. I really feel uncomfortable when I saw that, but I didn’t show it. That’s what I don’t understand; why would he do that in front of me?

So, can you please tell me whether he likes me or not? Thank you.

Thank you for your response! So fast=] May I ask, for guys, is it common to go to prom with a girl that he doesn't really like? Also, I really don't like the idea that he's sometimes very friendly to me, and sometimes flirt with other girls in front of me.. This makes me hesitate whether he actually likes me. After all, thank you for your response:)

Honestly, I'm shocked that you'd even have to ask this here. It's obvious that he likes you. Flirt back. I guarantee you he won't respond negatively to it.

I'll be honest -- I've flirted with girls like this before. It's odd, I know... but it's just how some guys do things. A lot of guys will tease or poke fun at girls when they like them and just want to joke with them. It's not that uncommon.

Best of luck. :)

Also, he always makes names for me, like shorty, 4ft9, loner,...
