A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I'm thinking of getting tattoos on my butt cheeks. I wanted to know if guys typically like that. I was doing it for myself and then I over heard a male friend react negatively towards it. I was going to get a centaur with a bow and arrow on one cheek because I'm a Sagittarius and on the other cheek a horse because they are an animal I enjoy and I've been told my body is like a horse (NOT THE FACE!) Is this a good idea? please lemme know.

Okay, I know this is an old q, but as a guy I have to say I don't mind tattoos, but really don't like to see them on ladies' asses (or breasts for that matter.)

A female reader, celtic_tiger United Kingdom +, writes (9 May 2012):

celtic_tiger agony auntPersonally I can't stand tattoos on men or women, but that is just my opinion. I do feel that many people get them as a 'whim' without thinking them thru properly and then regret them terribly.

So,

Who do you want the prospective audience to be for these things?

You, are not going to be able to visually enjoy them, as they are on your bum, and unless you are a contortionist, you will never see them except in a mirror....

Who are these really for? If they are to impress men, I think you may be going down the wrong avenue, as it may give the wrong impression that you show your bottom off to lots of people...

Plus, sitting down will be awkward for a while!

A reader, anonymous, writes (9 May 2012):

Asses are beautiful, so why cover them with tats? Terrible idea. If there are men out there that like tattooed asses, they will be in the MINORITY, as in a really small minority. I'm an ass man myself and I wouldn't even entertain the idea of tats on the butt. I know a lot of women have strange ideas of what is hot, but believe me, most men will not like tats on the ass or boobs.

These areas should speak for themselves. Men don't care about your horoscope or how much you love being a Sagittarius. If you love it so much, get a necklace. In either case, always remember this: YOU may like the idea of a tat now, but in a few decades when your skin looses its elasticity and firmness, will you like it then? Doubt it.

Honeypie agony auntI'm not a man, but I don't think tattoos on the but are hot...

But like I mentioned, you can get a "henna tattoo" and live with it for a couple of weeks see if you like it or not.

"I just wanted to know if most men find it tacky."

As an admittedly old and out-of-touch guy (over 50) I personally find tattoos extermely tacky and especially unbecoming on a female.

I'll admit in advance I'm guilty of perpetuating cultural stereotypes but to me tattoos scream "TRAILER TRASH!"

I'd strongly advise thinking very long and hard about this, and if you still think you want to get your butt tattooed, then wait at least another six months minimum before actually getting inked.

A female reader, So_Very_Confused United States +, writes (8 May 2012):

So_Very_Confused agony auntI have two tatts and I don't regret them.

one on my thigh and one on my shoulder

I wouldn't get one on my butt...

and I didn't get them till I was well over 40.. my body had sagged about all it was going to sag in those locations....

I lost a lot of weight and it did alter them a bit... the shoulder one is smaller and the one on my thigh is now misplaced.

on your butt is NOT a great idea... it will sag with age... it will change... and then the tatt is horribly and misshapen..

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 May 2012):

If you're really really sure about it, go for it.

But the butt area is risky because the tattoos will change with your body as you get older.

I personally would not put a horse & horoscope sign on my bottom or any tattoo there for that matter.

Ask yourself, is this something you'd still want when you get older, or would it be a regret?

Good luck!

This is verified as being by the original poster of the question

dont laugh but I thought the butt would be a good place because if it jiggles it'll look like the centaur and horse are running.

I would put them in spots where a bathing suit and underwear would hide it.

I just wanted to know if most men find it tacky. I may put the idea somewhere else but i thought it could be hot in on the butt. I have a lot to think about thanx

A female reader, Honeypie United States + , writes (8 May 2012):

Honeypie agony auntPersonally, I wouldn't put a tattoo on my butt. For a simple reason, you are still young, and IF you decide to have children you can be sure your butt will alter it's shape. Which in turn mean the tattoo can look a little warped. And getting both cheeks tattooed I wouldn't advice, I get the whole EVEN them out, but .. no.

Same with the "tramp stamp" area, upper arms, thighs, belly and boobs. These are areas that women can change a lot in during pregnancy or with age.

Why not try a Henna tattoo and see how you like it?

I have a tattoo on my left shoulder blade - it's about 18 years old now and honestly still look good. I had originally wanted it on my hip but my tattoo artist talked me out of it. She did however place the "stencil" in the place I wanted and first and I could see it didn't go there.

A female reader, Read-the-signs United Kingdom +, writes (8 May 2012):

I've never met a single woman who doesn't regret having a tattoo. That is my personal experience. My feeling is that they won't be in a place you can see regularly yourself, so why bother to put yourself through the pain of it and the possible regret.

Those tattoos seem reasonable, but in all honesty I would encourage to rethink where you would want to put them unless you care about being judged negatively by many men. IF that doesn't bother you I see no point in asking this question.

A male reader, The Realist Canada +, writes (8 May 2012):

The Realist agony auntAs long as you have given it enough thought and it is something that you want then I say you should do it. Your one guy friend may not like it but that shouldn't stop you. It is good that they won't be constantly visible. Any guy you meet will love you for you. I don't see tattoo being many deal breakers any more, plus if a guy wasn't into all of you then he isn't right for you anyway.

This sounds like your first tattoo so just be prepared for everything that comes along with it. Firstly you have to make sure you find a good artist so check their portfolio and art work. Secondly you want to make sure the design is something that you are going to be able to look at for the rest of your life. Lastly keep in mind that it is painful and it will be sore for about a week where sitting will not be pleasent. I have had both my spine and ribs tattooed so I know about the pain associated with it. I followed these steps plus a few more and I love my everything about my tattoo's so I am sure if you have thought about it you will too.

Odds are you'll regret getting your ass tattooed by the time you're forty, if not sooner; and as your body changes as you get older, the worse they'll look.
