A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

i have been on the pill for 2 1/2 weeks now. today my boyfriend and i had sex without a condom. im using the YAZ pill. is there a significant chance i could get pregnant or am i considered safe within the 99% effectiveness rating? is 2 1/2 weeks sufficient for the pill to take effect...ive heard mixed views on this.

(for added notes. he and i are both 20 years old, were each others firsts. there is no concern for STI/STDs between the two of us, we are very committed to each other)

thanks in advance for any answers or advice

I duno if the type of pill you are taking is different, but I know that the one I and many of my friends take after 14 days you are safe. I would doubt that the different types of pills would vary.

But to be on the safe side, ring your doctor or pharmaist and they should be able to tell you. Or it should even say it in the packet for the pill too i think.

hi there,

i would always recommend at least 1months added protection when starting taking the pill. i have always been told that it takes around the first month to "build up in your system". i dont know much about the yaz pill so i dug this off the ineternet for you:

YAZ

"Starting on the first day of your period means that you are protected from pregnancy immediately. But you should be protected after seven days of active pills in a row, but if you want to be totally certain, use condoms for a whole cycle."

it also says that your period may be a bit sqwiffy for the first 3months. if your next due period doesnt arive i would definately visit your doctor.

xx
