A male United States age 36-40, Daniel the love doctor writes:

I personally never attended a speed dating event as a participant. I have, however, as a matchmaker hosted a few. I can tell you there are quite a few benefits that comes with participating in speed dating events. And I know many people who have found their match through such events.

Here are some pro's to attending:

1. There's always the possibility of meeting "the one"- and if not, you can still meet some interesting people. Some you may date... some who may become a friend... some who you may not want see or ever cross paths with again in your life. When it comes to speed dating/social events, obviously the numbers are your favor, because there are many singles who are looking for love in one place.

2. You're getting an individual's undivided attention... even if it's for a few minutes. With everything in life being so fast paced.. and life doesn't slow down for anyone. It's no wonder there's something called speed dating! But within that small amount of time of speed dating you're rotating between potential matches, bettering your dating skills, learning how to read people better, and you may ultimately get a date with that lucky person. Plus at that point you've already developed rapport with that person- and know quite a few things about them. An obvious advantage over those who go on blind dates.

Some cons may include:

1. No one there is your type. If you don't find someone there that you like or if the conversation lacks, those few minutes may seem like hours. And then when you leave that event... you may think, "Why did I even show up?"

2. You subject to rejection. You may be on the receiving end of being rejected... or the person that some may not want to date (which can be especially disappointing if there's someone you like- but the feelings are not mutual).

At the end of the day it's up to you to weigh out the pro's and con's and decide for yourself if it's worth it to attend a speed dating event. But if you do go to one, go in with a positive attitude, high hopes, low expectations, and just have fun. Go in with the thought that you're going to meet some interesting people.
