In love with my friend's sister -- what should I do?

A male United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I am in love with my friends sister. I started liking her a couple of years ago and now I know I really like her a lot. I had planned to ask her to prom, but most of my friends said it wasn't a good idea. I was afraid that she was going to reject me, so I didn't ask. She ended up going with another guy while I went with another girl. Her and the other guy just went as friends and so did my prom date and I. I can't really tell if she likes me that way, and I'm not sure what I should do. Any opinions?

Fatherly Advice agony auntMan up!

While there is nothing wrong with going to prom with a friend, there is something wrong with not being able to risk rejection by asking a cute girl out for ice cream. You will be in no worse situation if she rejects you. in fact you can move on and stop being obsessed with an unrequited crush.

About your friend. Just tell him in advance that you are going to ask her. don't ask permission just let him be informed.
