Hi there,

this is more of a health question. I am 12 years old and 13 next year, and I am worried about my size (*hears all the people reading this sigh because this is written at least 50 times a week*) I know i am not fat, but i also know that i have the biggest bust in my class, being a 34 A in M and S bras, and B and C in some others. I am just worried because I am not very fit, though I am good at most sports. I just seem to be gaining a lot of wieght very quickly as I am over 8 stone, and I know that I am hevier than my friends mum. I do something every day of the week, I am learning 5 languages, and doing 5 1/2 hours of extracuricular sports a week, and I can't fit anything more in, but i still seem to be getting bigger and bigger, and i do not want to be fat when I am older because I know how many problems it causes you in later life. Is this puppy fat? Because I was a very long tall thin baby and child and now I've hit puberty I seem to be getting wider.

OMG this is long,

Thanks for reading

Jelly.

PS Some of my friends are fat and I don't want to tell them I am worried incase they take offence, I just want to know if I am OK and if this will pass or if I am doomed for life.

you sound like you're just the right size for your age! don't worry- you're just developing faster than your friends a 34A is small and 8stone is slim so dont' worry

scrazy agony auntYou're growing up. With all your activities, I'm pretty sure it's not puppy fat, you're getting curves, boobs, the whole shebang!

You're just developing faster then your friends. Don't worry about it. You'll get used to it and you'll LOVE having curves when you're older.

When you say you are gaining weight, do you actually see any fat appearing on your stomach or your bum? Or are you just going off reading the scales?

The reason you may be putting on weight is that you are growing. Bone, muscle, breasts, hips, they all weigh quite a lot you know and they are going to keep growing until you stop being a little stick of a girl and change into curvy woman.

As long as you are happy with yourself and you keep doing all those sports and eating right then you should be fine.

Good Luck!! xx

nettles agony auntYou don't mention your height but 8 stone is not heavy.

If you really are worried about your weight however, you should look at your diet, as your lifestyle seems really busy its likely that you aren't eating as healthily as you could.

It does sound like puppy fat which as you know goes away, a woman naturally gains "fatty bits" when they reach puberty.

As long as you are healthy and happy in your body then it doesn't matter what size you are so learn to love your curves...they'll become more important as you get older!!

You say you wear a 34, which is the most common size in Britain so by no means are you fat.

A female reader, cd206 United Kingdom +, writes (15 June 2008):

cd206 agony auntAt 12 you still have a lot of growing to do. What used to happen with me was that I would pile on the weight and then grow a couple of inches then pile on a bit more and grow a bit more. By the time I was fourteen I stopped growing and I was a normal weight for my height. Most people don't stop growing into they're 16 so it may be even a little longer with you. Being 12 is a hard time because your body is changing and you're going from having the straight up straight down body of a child to having more womanly curves. The hardest part about this is that all the people around you are maturing at different weights so you might feel you look fat compared to your best friend when in reality you're just developing quicker than her. You don't say how tall you are but I weighed 8 stone at 12 and was about 5 foot tall so you sound a normal weight. You have a really good attitude about weight and exercise in that you want to be fit and in good health, rather than skinny for skinny's sake. You're doing more than enough sport to keep fit and healthy so I would just try and relax, eat right (but don't deny yourself the odd treat) and tell yourself you look gorgeous. I'm sure any guys who give you advice will back me up when I say guys prefer curvy girls anyway!
