A male United Kingdom age 16-17, Sir Whetty writes:

I really like this teacher and since I am in year 11 and leaving the school I want to start a relationship with a teacher. I am soon going to be 16 also. Is it right to go out with a teacher even though there is a 7 years age gap?

A female reader, :):):) United Kingdom + , writes (24 May 2008):

I usually wouldnt say anything was wrong with seven year age gaps, afterall age is just a number. But it is different in your case. You may be old enough to have relationships but this one would cause alot of aggro for you both.

Even if you started a relationship after you'd left school, she would probably lose her job. Schools have very strict policies. It is unlikley she would risk her job for any student.

As hard as it may seem, you really are better off seeing other girls who will be able to give you the time and effort you deserve. It may not seem it now but in a years' time she will probably be a distant memory to you.

Good luck
