 Deciding to you want to spend your life with someone at your age is a huge commitment. So my first point is obviously, don't make huge life changing commitments without letting you think it through properly. My second point - if your not happy in a relationship, I tend to advise really making an effort in making the relationship work without immediately breaking up.
Though its obviously better for your children that their parents are together, its also good for them if you don't force yourself into a relationship with their father if its not working. They need to feel loved but that doesn't mean their parents have to be together. So don't feel like you have to remain in a relationship just for them. But put them first, they should be your priority.
I'll ignore asking why you were dating with some this other guy and still getting back together with your ex. As I said, make an effort in your current relationship, don't muck people around and break up if its really not working.
