Hey everybody. I'm 18 and trying to loose weight. I've put myself on a diet and I've banned myself from eating bread, dairy products and anything sweet that isn't fruit. So now I snack on fruits throughout the day and for dinner I have mostly vegetables. Also I have enforced a 'no-eating past-6pm' rule. I reckon if I stay on this diet long enough I'll see good results. The problem is I can't stay motivated. Sometimes I get massive cravings and feel like cheating or giving up. I want to loose at least 2stone.

I'm 5ft 4inches and I'm a size 12-14-16 I weigh 11stone and 5lbs. I don't want to be skinny I just want to look good naked really. I look 'alright' naked but I don't look like model material (which is the look I'm going for). I'm tired of being overweight. Basically Does anyone know of anything that will dull my appetite? And does anyone have any tips on how to successfully loose weight? Also are there any at home exercises I can do? The gym is too expensive and I don't have time to go running. Thanks. All answers welcome.

Hey,

don;t try and dull your appetite.

it has been suggested that when you think your hungry your body is actually thirsty.

So try and drink 2 litres of water or more a day, especially when ypu feel a bit peckish, it works!

peace!

It's really good that you are wanting to do something about your weight and i can completly understand where you are coming from. I'm 18 too and i weighed about that when i started my diet. I managed to lose a couple of stone in a couple of months by not being too strict on myself - I ate 1000 kcals a day and walked each day for atleast half an hour and the weight just fell off me. You don't have to completely come off sweets just cut down (One thing which i found helped was having a cup of hot chocolate instead of eating a chocolate bar when i really wanted something sweet). I found it really hard to stay motavated at the start so i took a picture of myself at my worst and then every week took measurements so that even if i couldn't see the difference i knew i was losing weight. I hope this helps and good luck.

p.s i know you say you are embarressed about running but it will help cut down your appetite and help your confidence. Also i read that by eating mushrooms it helps take away cravings for sugar.

Well i suppose in that case it would be a bit more difficult excercising at home but I did in fact watch a story on an a current affair show about some lady who, like you felt embaressed to go excercising around her neighbourhood, and so she started walking around her clothes line :P Hey it worked though, she ate healthy, kept walking in those small circles in her back garden and lost weight. As for jogging on the spot, that would not have the same effect as normal jogging, but hey, i guess it's a lot better than just sitting and watching tv. Also for home, one simple idea, why not buy a skipping rope, skipping is a good form of excercise, or investing in some work out videos or something? Oh and dancing! Haha, i love listening to music, turning it up loud and just dancing in my room :P Anyway good luck! Hope this helps and sorry i haven't heard of any supplements but i think the secret to weight loss is to realise there is no secret, it sucks i know but with determination you can definitely shed some weight.

Thanks for your answers eveyone but like I said, I have no time to go running. And I find it embarrassing, I've got no one to run with. I'm not an early morning person so I can't do it in the morning (plus I have to go to college), I can't do it at night because that's risky - young female running alone in the dark etc. I know it seems like I'm making all the excuses in the book but the gym and running aren't really suitable for me. I'd prefer to stay at home where no one can see me, I'd be a lot more comfortable. lol. Does jogging on the spot have the same effect as normal jogging? Thanks male anon I'll start keeping a diary of what I eat. Oh and does anyone know of any supplements I can take that will dull my appetite? Have you heard of anything or is that just my wishfull thinking?

You say you can't afford the gym, have you tried the exercise DVD's you can get? Ask a friend to join in with you and to give you the motivation you need. They can be great fun to do, you just need to find the right one that suits you.

I personally dont beleive in diets, I believe you should be able to eat what you want but in moderation, eg have 6 small meals a day rather than 3 big ones. If you want sone chocolate, then have some, just not a massive bar and not every night.

You can also get the exercise balls, these are fantastic, I have one and swear by it.

Also, drink plenty of water, I know its boring but it will help to flush out your system, and will help to curb those hunger pangs which most people mistake as hunger when really your just thirsty.

Dont give up, you wont see results overnight but trust me, you will in time.

Good luck, but remember, dont overdo it, do what you are comfortable doing.

xx

I suggest you find a sport you like and use that as your starting point in losing fat and redefining your shape. Having a hardcore set diet really sucks and takes the joy of culture out of life. I say that you can cut down on what you eat rather than cut out what you eat. For someone your size, you may want to eat more protein than carbs and get into cardio-type exercises like biking, swimming, climbing, etc. Eg: to complement mountain biking or road cycling, you can go to the gym and do light weight training and some extra cardio.

Hey

Don;t be disheartened, 'diets' are difficult because alot of the time the word is taken out of context. Everyone has a diet and therefore one way to stay motivated is to not think of your diet as regimented prison that you are sadistically practicing it is but a means to an end and a positive step to a better life style.

Secondly, keep a diary and a calander- by setting yourself a target weight and time and plotting the progress is a good way to keep yourself motivated as progress is sometimes hard to see- so weigh yourself as well and record it

Thirdly, excercise with a friend- try not make it a lone battle. having an element that can be shared is a good way to loosen the feeling of the diets oppressive element.

Lastly, try and vary your diet- find novel ways to eat- mixing food and flavours, spices keeps the diet fresh salads and fruit aren;t depressing punishments but rocket, arugila, mango and pears are all ways to keep your diet fun and different

Hope this helps,

well, first note that the majority of people are not model skinny perfect and you don't need to be like that to look attractive. But if you really want to lose weight you need a good balance of eating right and excercise. Usually when people say they don't have time to run, they really mean they don't MAKE time to do so. You say that you don't go to a gym bevause of the cost which is fair enough, but if you were to go to a gym that would be time consuming as well would it not? I say really making an effort to make time to go out for a run, or even a walk (as walking is actually better for weight loss), would be a great start. As for your cravings I find that the more i get into a routine of excercising regularly and begin to feel healthier my eating habbits reflect this and am able to resist those cravings. Some possible excercises for you to do at home could be some sit ups, push ups, stuff like that, and it is also good to stretch. Hope this helps, but remember you are already beautiful and please don't feel pressured to look like the models do.
