A female reader, anonymous, writes (28 March 2008):

when you stop eating you lose about an average of 7 pounds per week

one per day.

it takes -3500 calories to lose a pound

the amount of calories you burn per day by just doing nothing is 15* your weight

for ex. if you weighed 100lbs, the amount your body would burn a day would be 15*100 = 1500cals

BUT this is just what your body burns by being alive

you'll most likely burn another 1500 on random activities like cleaning your room , or walking to school all that burns cals.

Instead of going on a soda diet only, you could go on a liquid diet. Drink protein shakes and milk with some fat so you get protein, fats, and carbs.

What would be the side effects... hmmm let me think... maybe...

DEATH!

cut out fizzy drinks, choco, crisps and fried junk food and go for a swim or run every other day for 10 minutes THEN you will lose weight by easter sunday.

try exploring and perhaps following the mealplans on this website... www.sparkteens.com the address is something like that

A male reader, anonymous, writes (8 March 2008):

Good gracious are you insane?

Softdrinks are BAD for you. If you want to diet, don't drink them. Eat NORMAL food and cut out on the softdrinks, that will do you far more good.

If you absolutely MUST go on a drinks only diet (DON'T) at least make it full fruit juices.

But don't diet by drinking chemical sugar water.

As for the diet soft-drinks, how soon do you want to die? I am not kidding, get this stupid idea out of your head SEE A DOCTOR if you do not believe me but do NOT go on a softdrink only diet.

Dieting on the whole is a bad idea. Cut down on the bad foods, but eat regular meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner. That is FAR better for managing your weight. Skipping meals tells you body that food is in limited supply and it will therefor try to get everything out of it that it can, and this means it will try to extract as much fat as possible to help get you through the lean times.

Diet, and your body thinks you are starting and will try to create fat reserves. Feed your body properly and your body will think food is a plenty and concentrate on getting the healthy nutrients and ignore the fat parts.

Then when your body is in balance, you can start excercising to SLOWLY but PERMANTLY loose the weight.

Good dieting is finding a healthy balance NOT starving yourselve.

A female reader, korculan queen Australia +, writes (8 March 2008):

Drinking excess of softdrink can lead to osteoperosis as the carbonated drinks saps you calcium stores. Starving yourself will not make you lose weight. I would drink eight glasses of water a day, eat two serves of fruit and three of vegetables and one of meat. Limit bread intake especially white bread for its bloating effect and do not be hard on yourself. Starving yourself will lead to an eating disorder. Take care.

A female reader, Laura1318 Malaysia +, writes (8 March 2008):

Laura1318 agony auntIf you do not eat enough calories a day and for a prolonged period , your organs will suffer failures and this will have a long term effects on your health.

Eat more green vege and less fast foods which are fattening.

There is too much sugar in those drinks and can caused you diabetes if consumed over a long time.

Diet sensibly.

In the short run , your weight is down due to the water loss and not those fats.

If you want to loss weight fast, diarrhoea can make you lose weight fast.

But this is not recommended.

Entirely Unique agony auntIf you don't eat when you do the food you do eat will be stored as fat and will make you very bloated and appear of a higher weight than what you actually are.

The best way to lose weight is to eat the right amount of everything within your diet and exercise, 3 meals a day any snacks eat fruit, drinks lots of water, sleep proper times for 6-8 hours a day and for some people not eating after certain times helps, ie. don't eat after 7-8pm.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 March 2008):

drinking lots of coke is so dangerous, it can make you really ill because of things in it like phosphoric acid, which needs to be restricted in a healthy diet, not the only thing in your diet. You need to eat regular meals each day, meals that are balanced, you can lose weight that way. Why don't you talkto a parent so you can sort out what meals to have.

A male reader, Uncle Trev United Kingdom +, writes (8 March 2008):

If you spend the next two weeks eating nothing you will get ill and probably go to hospital - simple as that.

Dieting like this does not work - your body goes into starvation mode and your motabilism slows down so you burn far less calories therefore preserving your weight pretty much as it is at the moment.

Your weight loss will slow down, you will feel miserable and you risk damage to your internal organs too. Now if that sounds sensible to you then go for it - at your peril.

To add more risk to this the acidity of carbonated drinks and the cafine content when not washed down naturally could cause damage to the stomach lining.

Eat small and often and keep active and you will loose more weight than if you choose to starve yourself. Keep a consistant protein intake whatever you do.

A male reader, SamuraiRick United States +, writes (8 March 2008):

SamuraiRick agony auntNO!!!..That’s a horrible diet!!! You have to have nutrition in your body and soda of all things is the one thing you should cut out of your diet, even the lo-cal. You could potentially kill yourself on that kind of diet! If you are going to drink anything drink plain old water. But NOT just water!....to lose weight, and not getting into any specific plans, what you need to do is eat smaller portions of food from the four food groups, all balanced and spread out throughout the day.

Also you need to get off your butt and exercise. Sweat that fat off while still feeding your body just enough to get by and still lose weight. You exercise and you eat right. That's how you lose weight! There is no quick fix soda pop diet! When your body is not getting enough nutrition what happens is your body will convert muscle into fat...and you gain more fat, and lose muscle! Not the way to go.

Your brain and your organs need nutrition for you to breath and survive. We humans eat food for a reason. It is the fuel that keeps us going! Without it your brain could shut down...and who knows. I'm no doctor or nutritionist, but believe me you don’t want to go there. Please take my commonsense advice and do not starve yourself with just soda pop.

A female reader, kirstylou United Kingdom +, writes (7 March 2008):

kirstylou agony auntThis is very wrong!

Coke and fanta are full of sugar - too much sugar is very bad for you health!

also, by not eating any food will make you ill, ul have no energy and so on and when u do start eating your body will only put the wight on much quicker!!

the best option is to drink 8 pints of water a day

have 3 small meals a day, try and cut out the junk food.. like chips, fast food, sweets, if u have tea dont have no sugar... eat fruit etc. All this will help you lose your weight, ul lose it much quicker though if u exercise at the same time. do sum exercise when u wake up - before u have ur breakfast and before you go to bed. It has helped me lose 2 and a half stone so far :)

A reader, anonymous, writes (7 March 2008):

Hmmm... I think you'll definitely lose weight! But it's probably not a very healthy road to go down! I don't really eat much very often, and the days when I don't eat anything I feel really weak and I almost passed out once- not a good experience. I did lose weight though!

But to be honest, if you're looking to lose weight I wouldn't just hav a can of fanta or coke per day. Maybe have some food too!

A male reader, DoubleM United States +, writes (7 March 2008):

DoubleM agony auntIn my opinion, an awful idea. Soda pop is one of the major contributors to weight problems. I cut them out more than 10 years ago, added some power-walking and light exercise, and lost about 40 pounds over a few months. I have not consumed more than about five Dr. Peppers (my old favorite) in the last five years, and still have little belly. Don't believe the "Diet Coke" claims, all bull.

Just switch to drinking lots of water, eating veggies and lean meats, cut back on potatoes and other carbs to some degree, add some fast walking and you will be beautiful soon enough.
