Fatherly Advice agony auntRomance means sex to men and talking to women. If you weren't so young and anxious you would talk first and avoid the sleepy time. I know all this but still find myself nodding off soon after sex. I think that the best course is to fulfill your need for talk at other times. At least that works for us.

I'm afraid that you're getting mad at your boyfriend for something he has little control over.

Not only can sex be physically tiring, but during orgasm all kinds of chemicals get released in our bodies and some of those chemicals trigger sleepiness.

It probably effects some guys more than others, but basically men are designed to fall asleep straight after sex.

As such I don't have an answer other than 'it's normal' and hopefully understanding that will help you accept it when he does it. Perhaps you could try cuddling up to him and having a snooze too?

A female reader, SugarCookie United States +, writes (5 September 2009):

You should look up what happens to the brain after sex. A chemical is released that relaxes a person and often makes then sleep. He really is tired from that chemical and it has nothing to do with you. Google it and do some research and be glad he doesn't finish lay down and start snoring because that happens to a lot of people.
