writes:hi. i am 14 and i work down at a riding school on sundays. There is a really nice boy down there who i fancy. He is a year younger than me. I want to ask for his mobile number, but I'm scared that he is going to say no because i have had that done to me before with other boys. I get really shy and quiet around him. Whta shall i do? should i just ask him?

 hey! u shud just go 4 it n ask! he wud be stupid to say no. u dnt no he cud feel the same as u? if he did turn u down, just think ov it as a part ov lifes vicious obsticules. ive bin in that situation lots ov times n it is hard but 1 day mr.rite will come along n beleive me it will happen! u av got nothing to loose but at the same time be carefull n dnt throw urself into things. but u never no untill u try! i wish u the best ov luck x x x

The best way to get over fear of rejection, I have found, is to sit down by yourself and imagine the worst possible situation. I mean the absolute ludicrously, never-gonna-happen, WORST. Imagine him not just saying 'no' to your request, but also laughing about it. Imagine how horrible you would feel. And then imagine what comes next. You would collect yourself, turn around, and walk away. You would NOT have died of shame or sadness, you would NOT have found yourself unable to crush on any boy in the future...you would just shrug it off and move on.
Once you imagine the worst, nothing else can happen that will be harder. So after you imagine the worst, realize that he is NOT going to laugh at you--either he will give you his number and you will call him, or he will say 'no' and you won't. Either way, you'll know and be ready to make some fun choices.
I bet he'll say 'yes', though. :) Best of luck.
