For two months now my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant. Everytime I think I'm pregnant I find out I'm not. For some reason my menstraul cycles are much longer than the normal 28 days. I went from having my period start on the 30th of August and end September 5th, to not getting my period again until October 18th and ending October 23. I don't know if I'm just infertil or if I'm doing something wrong. Can someone give me some ideas on how to up my chances of getting pregnant? I truly want a child and am willing to try anything!

Hi darlin! Its true that if you have just gotten off of the pill it can take up to two years to get pregnant. But I assure you as soon as you stop stressing out about getting pregnant and just enjoy your life and your husband soon enough your tummy will be full with a little bundle of love. Good luck and please dont fret! Give it a few months.

cd206 agony auntIt can take much longer than 2 months to be pregnant. Some doctors suggest waiting for a year or even up to eighteen months if you've just come off the pill since it takes a while for your body to start functioning normally again. It's a tired cliche but everyone says you get pregnant when you stop worrying about it so stress less and try enjoying sex. It'll happen soon enough.

Blue_Angel0316 agony auntConsult with a gynocologist. Sometimes women have irregular cycles and they can be regulated by taking Birth Control Pills. The Doctor can give you other suggestions on how to check for times when concieving is better. You need to start by placing your start and end cycle on a calender. This will help you to chart your cycle. Take it to the Doctor. It will help him to know your exact times and lenght of the cycle and will give him a better input on how to treat you.

Don't worry because stress can cause your cycle to stop or start at uneven times. You need to have a checkup to rule out any other problems such as cysts, tumors, problems in the tubes or with ovulation. Scar tissue can cause problem as well if by chance you have had any other injury to the vaginal area or womb. Certain infections can cause problems as well and infertility should also be ruled out.

If the problem is with you a gynocologist can be an excellant source of help. Be patient and remember that sometimes all you really need is a little time.

God bless,

Is your flow very heavy? There are many women who have irregular periods and still get pregnant.Check for Poly cystic ovaries. They play havoc with a woman's menstrual cycle.

Do not Stress! You cannot get pregnant that way.you need to be happy.Have sex on the 9th,11th,13th days from the start date of your period.

Check with your gynecologist.Make sure you and your husband undergo tests. Its only two months since you started trying.Don't worry. It takes time.

Have you been on the pill lately?

Have your periods always been like that? You dont mention how long have you had them like this and when did they start in the beginning?

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (4 November 2008):

Eat healthily, quit smoking and drinking, take folic acid suppliaments.

Get one of those test kits which tell you when you are at your most fertile.

Go to a doctor and get them to check you and your husband's fertility and talk about your irregular cycle.

Have lots of sex at the right time.

Good Luck!! xx
