Hello!

I started my period a few days ago, and all the sudden

I'd gained nearly five pounds! Which has never happened. I'm becoming worried that it won't go away! I feel so self conscious, and it's really noticeable. My jeans don't fit! My stomach is huge and round. I heard water-weight is common BEFORE your period, but I got mine when it started. What can I do? Will it go away?

I've been drinking lots and lots of water, and trying to eat as well as I can and have been working out. But it's still there! Would Midol help? I also have been peeing very little and have been very constipated... So compared to my intake, not much has come out. Does this have anything to do with it? Is there something my doctor can give me to ease this for future periods?

Ah. I'm so concerned that I've just gained so much weight. I don't look good in anything!

Thanks for your feedback!

shrodingerscat agony auntIf five pounds makes it so you literally cannot fit into your jeans, you're wearing jeans that are already too tight.

So go up a size, and this won't be a problem on your period.

The Realist agony auntFrom the point of just day to day weight change it is possible to shift 5 pounds up or down very rapidly. It is perfectly normal even though it probably isn't fun at all there isn't much you can do. It is true that midol may help and also a gentle laxitive may be useful for the constipation but it isn't healthy to take them too often. I would only reserve those for if it gets really bad.

dmartin89 agony auntI have this EXACT same problem before/during/couple days after my period.

Put on 3kg (6.6lbs), dont use the bathroom for days on end, dont pee as much, cant do up my jeans, feel very uncomfortable, could eat for england.

Fortunately it goes away AFTER my period. Its awful, but you just have to let nature take its course!

Be careful with diuretics, they contain high amounts of caffeine which I personally find give me terrible headaches!

celtic_tiger agony auntI have that problem, when I get my period I can gain a huge amount of weight, purely from water retention.

It isnt very fun at all, but it happens to a lot of women. There isn't much you can do about it.
