He could be gay, that's why he picks at them. If he is gay it should make no difference to your friendship and it shouldn't worry you at all.

 lol, my 18 year old boyfriend does a freakishly good gay impression. He makes jokes about being gay all the time. He walks up to our friends and goes 'hi guys' in a really...well, gay voice. When it comes right down to it, he is NOT gay, haha. Anything but.
Some people just like to joke. Even the gay people around here laugh at him. He works with a gay couple, and the guys are really in stitches when he's around because he's nice about it. I don't think your friend is gay.
And even if he is...would that matter if he didn't make a move on you? Why would you care? Are you afraid? Fill me in on this, and I'll be able to help you more. :)
