writes:My end of year prom is coming up school and as part of the school rules we are not allowed to bring anyone who is not a student from the school to the prom. Also everyone has been paired up with someone in the class who is basically our prom date. I really want to go but my boyfriend would rather I didn't. I don't want to hurt him but I've been waiting for this for years. Also the boy I've been chosen to go with is a really good friend and we are nothing more than that. My boyfriend hates it but should I go? Am I being unreasonable and selfish? Reply to this Question

& if you mean a lot to your bf he will want you to be happy.
you have alreayd explained to him that you & your potential prom date are just friends. he should trust you enough to not think nothing of it. you should really go. he is the one who is being selfish. this is a once in a lifetime opportunity that you could NEVER re-live

The memory of your prom will probably last a lot longer than your current boyfriend. I'm not trying to mean, but seriously... go with your friend and have a blast. It's prom, after all!! Maybe arrange some time for your boyfriend and prom date (and other friends to avoid awkwardness) so that your boyfriend can get to know him and know he's not after for any after prom action or anything. I'm sure your boyfriend is a little jealous, a little insecure and definitely bummed that he can't take you. Try to reassure him.

 no, not at all. go and have a great time. as long as you and the boy in your class are just friends then you're boyfriend is the unreasonable and selfish one. and my boyfriend is here now as i'm answering this question, he said the same thing as me. so now you even have a lads opinion! i hope you enjoy the prom!!! ...try talking to your boyfriend make sure he knows how much you want to go!! reassure him that its not that you dont want him to come with you but he cant come as he isnt allowed. keep me updated.x
