Hey everyone,

Im in a bit of a dilemma and I need your help.I am currently 18 and going to be 19 in two weeks. Anyway there's this guy who I like who's 16,that's just started college. Now my problem is I NEVER go for guys younger than my age,but i really like this guy because he is so mature.

He seems like a 17/18 year old. Turns out he has a massive crush on me for sometime now,but I don't know what to do.

Koala Bear agony auntSixteen is too young. Legally it would be an issue. I would suggest spending lots of time with students your age until he gets a little older. Hopefully by then you will have met some one else who is the complete package, eligible, and age appropriate. Infatuation is a complicated stage because it allows you to compromise your standards and create excuses in you mind why someone else is a match for you. Compare your 16 year old self to the young lady you are today, there's probably a huge difference, as there will be with him three years from now. You should continue your friendship with him, but keep your focus. Good Luck!

A reader, anonymous, writes (15 September 2011):

My husband is about five years younger than me, and we met when I had just turned 25 and he was 19. The thing though, is we were both over 18.

The thing about me is although I'm older, I feel like I'm younger than him due to his attitude and maturity. In fact, he acts older than me. So it really just depends.

My only issue is he's 16 and that may cause some problems since you're 19. That's such a sticky age frame where you're a teen but still not at the same time. It may not that you have a bad relationship but his parents might not appreciate it, or other law issues.

Thelaird1 agony auntThe age difference is not great and the maturity level is what's important.

If you both really like each other, then it's a shame to not give it a try.

Afterall, age is only an issue if you let it be.

Best of luck
