Holden Caulfield: The protagonist and narrator of the novel, finds himself upset with the society in which he lives. Throughout the novel he goes on a journey to find himself.
Holden is immature although he makes attempts to act as if he is mature. Holden can not accept those who value materialistic items and labels them "phonies."
In all, Holden is hypocritical and it is perhaps this trait that causes him to self-destruct.
He's what some may call an 'Anti-Hero'.
I cheated!

Hi,
What a book!
Go to google and type in "catcher in rye analysis". You should get a site called homework-online. This has a forum and lots of info on catcher in the rye.
Remember, if you acknowledge at the end of your essay that you used this site for help, then it is not cheating. You are using this for help and further study. Acknowledge using it and that is perfectly in order.
best wishes, G.xx
