Dear Cupid,

When I was in my boyfriends bathroom (I'm not sure if his parents use it too or not), I found a bottle of Jock Itch wash/medicine. He sometimes itches his balls alot. Do you think he could be hiding this from me? Or do you think he/his dad has it just in case? What do you think is going on?

C. Grant agony aunt"Jock itch" is very common, a fungal infection that's similar to Athlete's Foot. It's incredibly contageous, and thrives in any area of the body that doesn't regularly get air and light -- such as the scrotum, or under the breasts of well-endowed women. If he so much as shared a towel with someone who had Athlete's Foot, he could easily have ended up with the infection in his crotch. It's by no means necessarily sexually transmitted, but most people find it terribly embarrassing. I'm not surprised he didn't mention it to you.

Quit being mean to me. I was just asking a question.

Hmmm I think he deserves a more sane and respectful gf. He has something too bloody common, and moreover he is getting help. You, my friend, need help.

Why are you going through his medicine cabinet? If I were him I'd be mad that you don't respect his privacy.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (11 July 2010):

Ummm do you even know what jock itch is? It's quite common (especially if he plays sports), and even women can get it. If it is your bf's I'm sure he's not 'hiding' anything from you. Maybe he is embarassed to mention it, or doesn't feel as though it's something he is required to tell you.

I'm trying to understand why you feel that this is a big deal?

A female reader, mervy Australia +, writes (11 July 2010):

mervy agony auntI wouldn't really worry. I'm almost 100% sure you can't catch it anyway, its just like having athlete's foot, it's just in a different area. And at least if he does, he's doing something about it! You obviously think he should have told you, but I don't think it would be unreasonable for him not to, especially if you haven't been going out for long, or if it's something that will be cleared up quickly.

Hope that helps!

Logicgirl agony auntWhy dont you just try to talk with him? When you ask him, use understanding words instead of yelling, panicking. Good luck!
