I have recently started dating someone I met through an online dating service. He's really nice and has a great sense of humor. But I am totally bored in our relationship. I feel as though we treat each other more like locker room buddies than boyfriend/girlfriend. He's head over heels for me, which is awesome, but I am worried that I don't feel the same. What do I do?

A female reader, Bev Conolly Australia +, writes (29 May 2005):

Bev Conolly agony auntIt's not really fair to him to continue seeing him if you feel sure that you're not going to develop any stronger attachment to him.

Give yourself a chance to get to know him. You don't say how long you've been going out, but be sure to give him a chance to really show you what kind of person he is. Then, if you know that things are going nowhere, the only kind thing to do is to tell him so. Put yourself in his shoes: you'd hate for a guy to carry on like he was enjoying your company for an extended period, particularly if he was as "bored" as you are.

Better to firmly and kindly end things than to lead him on.
