 you could always have different colour highlights and see which looks best then eventually add more and more into the hair untill it is your desired colour

 Go for soft colours, brown with a hint of red like cappucino medium dark brown if you fancy a change.
Try semi permanent so that if you do not like it, you can remove within days.
You could try wig shop just to see colours against your face if not sure at all.
Alternatively, a good stylist will advise you what colour suits you best.
