I don't want this girl to think I'm a dufus!

Ok so i know this might sound like i am shy but i am really not that shy. I have a calm personality but i am not afraid to go up and talk to people. My problem is that theres this girl ive seen in the halls at school and i think shes cute and im not afraid to go up to her but i really dont know what to say. I dont have her in any classes so its not like i can chat her up in class. I only see her for about 30 seconds in the hall when i pass by her when she is going to her class. I want to get to know her better but like i said i dont really know what to say to engage her in a conversation. I dont want to go up to her and have her think im a big dufus. Do you guys have any ideas?
