I am 21 years old and I just had my first pap smear a week ago. Today I got the letter with my results but it didnt give me any. I am very worried because it said that I have to make another apt to discuss the results with my doctor. Have any of you girls out there had this happen to you before where you have to go back? Like I said, the letter didnt say it was normal or abnormal, just that I needed to discuss the results with my doctor. Please just someone let me know what might be going on. I am very worried. Thank you.

Oh and yes, I am sexually active with my boyfriend of over a year, but he wasnt my first, and I have been on birth control for a while but then wasnt during the time I took the pap. maybe that info would help you girls with my situation.

Dawnie agony auntIt is probably abnormal cells which is quite common. I had the same thing happen about 9 years ago, i was worried, i saw the doctor and he put my mind at rest. I had a colposcopy which showed there were abnormal cells. These cells can go back to normal of their own accord, but as there is no guarantee then often you will have some kind of treatment. I opted for laser which was fine. I then had a yearly smear test for 3 years after, always clear. I went on to have my 2nd child a year after the treatment. I also have found over the years that friends/colleagues have had the same kind of thing with abnormal cells and usually have had some kind of treatment. One thing i do remember is when i first found out i went and got a book from the local library and found that to be very helpful. So perhaps you can do this or research on the internet.

Good luck.

Hi Hunny,

It may be an infection hunny when they do these cervical smear tests they check for other things as well as abnormal cells, If you have abnormal cells they will have caught it early and that is a good thing, The doctor is on the ball sweetheart and thats what you need a doc that knows what he/she is doing and doesnt waste time doing it. Please dont worry I have to go back every 6months as I have abnormal cells and they keep an eye on me, Which is good. Wait untill you have heard what your doctor has to say and try not to get all worked up love I understand why you are but you are in very good hands by the sounds of things and have a very good doctor. Goodluck and take care of you love and prayers mandy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
