I dont think theres a wrong or right way, each break up is unique to the two of you everyone feels it differently. However a year on, there is a point where you need to say look its out of my control, i need to find myself and get back up from this.
The past is past and although your hurting now you will move forward and you will find love again. The fact that he never gave you a reason has probably been the cause of the hurt, so many questions eating away at you. Dont blame yourself, your feelings were genuine, it doesnt make you a bad person to still love.
I know its cheesy but weve all been there, at some point its happened to us all but if we let it stop our lives wed never find our future, dont loose yourself into something that didnt work, for whatever reason he moved on, do the same start and take control of yourself again. Start and move forward,

 it takes time to get over someone you have been with for a long time you just have to get out with your friends and start looking for someone else because the chances of you getting back with him is highly unlikely.maybe he thought you just didnt click or he wasnt happy or didnt want to be committed to you at your age.everyone goes through what you are going through but time is the best healer
