How to confuse another guy into wondering if I like him or not?

Question - (21 December 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 22 December 2010)
A male United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

So I'm in college, and this year, within the first two months, my friend told this guy that i like him. The thing is, when she told him that, I actually didn't like him. However, now I'm growing more attracted to him daily. He thinks/knows i like him, and there are rumors circulating. Anyways, my question is: How can i confuse him to make him think that I either don't like him, or give him mixed signals to make him that much more doubtful about whether I do or not? I don't want comments about how dishonest and manipulative this is. He's straight (or at least not out of the closet) so I want him to forget I ever liked him, and doubt whether I like him now. Simply saying "I don't like you." didn't work out before, so i need to plant the doubt and distraction into his head without him noticing that was my plan all along. I'm not trying to get in his pants, I just want us to be chill friends, even if that means I have to put aside my little crush. But we can't be friends until he doubts that little crush was ever even there.

Okay... here are a few tips on things that have been mixed signals for me:

Start a conversation with him, then don't say much and finally cut it short.

Be ambiguous with a lot of other guys.

Make flirty moves in a "joke" kind of way, as if being serious with him could never happen.

Try ignoring him just as much as you acknowledge him.

Living these has made me miserable, but only because I liked the guy. Hope my painful memories can be of some use to someone instead :)
