Just a quick question. Not anything to do with relationships but I’ll ask anyway. I would like as many people as possible to answer please. Just in general, how many times a month or how many times a year do you feel sick? Like just not feeling well such as headache or stomach ache. I’m just wondering because I think I am sick way too often and I’ve been tested for everything and apparently nothing is wrong with me. Please answer. Thank you.

dr.2.be agony auntAs far as being sick with a virus or bacterial infection, I would say less than twice a year. I don't remember the last time I had something as simple as a cold.

Not feeling well in general however, depends on the time of year. During the school semesters there may be a couple times a month where I will feel very tired or have a headache and feel weak. But this is mainly due to lack of sleep, stress and not eating enough if I am studying all day. As soon as I get something to eat, catch up on sleep and relax, I feel much better. When the semester is not in session and I am on summer break, I feel well every day. I very rarely feel under the weather.

You may not be sick, if I were you, I would check your enviornment and your diet. You may not be eating enough protein, taking in enough iron or not eating enough fruits and veggies. Checking the Carbon Monoxide content in your house can be a good idea too, since Carbon Monoxide poisoning can cause tiredness, dizziness and a general sick feeling for no reason at all. In the meantime, try to eat better. Consume less sugar, increase your intake of veggies and fruits, and make sure you take in enough protein. If you don't feel better in a week or so, it may be a good idea get your carbon monoxide levels checked in your house. Hopefully this can resolve your problem.

Good Luck!! :-)

Feeling sick? A lot of the time, but this doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with me. I feel sick when I'm hungover, when something is worrying me or I'm nervous, and only occasionally when I'm actually ill. I'm only 'properly' ill about once a year, if that. I'm one of the lucky ones!

This may sound a bit irrelevant, but check for a carbon monoxide leak in your house!

turtle86 agony auntUmm.. I am not sure how many times in general... But less than 5 a year. I am talking about majorly sick here.

Also it might just be that you have a week immune system. I am not sure but that is what I think. Now this is my assumption I am no doctor so this is not entirely true. But it might be. [:

A female reader, anonymous, writes (17 August 2009):

what kind of headaches are you getting?

i used to feel that way when i was young, and when i was older, finally, they diagnosed me w/ migraine. i had a hard time explaining, when i was young, what my symptoms really were. i would tell the dr i felt sick to my stomach, like as if i were going to throw up, but then try to explain that the problem wasn't in my stomach, it was in my head. what i meant was that i was experiencing episodes of dizziness/vertigo -- like i'd come off a merry-go-round that had spun me too quickly. but i didn't know how to articulate that. so the docs spent their time exploring the wrong systems, and i would get angry, b/c i kept telling them the problem was in my head, and they thought I was just a dumb kid who wasn't making sense.

the other thing that happened to me is that, for years, i thought i always had a cold. like -- ALWAYS. i was always sick. my nose was runny, my head was congested, my throat hurt, and i kept going back to the dr, over and over, and i couldn't understand why i couldn't get well. and then, finally, in college, a nurse practitioner whose name i never even knew but to whom i will forever be grateful, took one look at me and said, "you're not sick. you have allergies. duh." and just like that, i discovered claritin and flonase, and my symptoms improved. (and then i discovered the saline nasal rinse, and they basically disappeared.)

all this to say, hang in there. when you're young and growing, it's normal to get sick several times in a cold season, and maybe once or twice outside flu/cold season, too. if you have asthma or a weaker immune system, you may get sick every time anything goes around. (i learned a long time ago not to drink after people or share food, b/c they'll be fine, but i'll end up sick. try it. see if it helps.) and keep asking questions if you're not sure you're getting the right answers. you know your body better than anyone, and it is telling you something -- even if it's just telling you to slow down, or whatever.

be well.

I guess it depends on where you go, who you meet, and weather or not you could potentially catch anything from someone who is ill. But, it also sounds as though you are worrying too much about it, and worry in itself can cause people to feel run down.
