How do I try to overcome these intense feelings of jealousy??

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Well i'll just get straight to the point. I like this girl and I have done for quite a while now, and she doesn't feel the same way back. Which I'm coping with, not easily but I can deal with it. But the biggest problem at the moment is, if i know she's spending time with someone who I'm friends with too I get majorly jealous and I can feel the jealousy building inside me. I get jealous when she hangs out with people who are quite good friends with me and yet they're with her, because I feel as though it should be me there instead of them who don't appreciate spending time with her as much as I do!! It's really starting to affect me, and I'm even in situations in my dreams where I get jealous! It's just not good. Has anybody got any advice?? Thank you!

(I wrote the question) Yes she does know how I feel although I haven't mentioned it in a while. And thank you PsyCookie for the article. The jealousy is beginning to get a very strong hold of me and it needs to stop. I don't make it obvious that I'm jealous, I conceal it well but it still has it's affect!

Did you tell her how you feel or are you just assuming she doesn't feel the same way? The first step would be to find out & if she doesn't like you in that way then move on. The best way to get over a person is to fascinate yourself with someone else. Even if this isn't a real crush, just a distraction, you need it.

In my opinion, I think that you should be quick to the punch. Tell her your true feelings about her. Also try and not be jealous whenever she is around other girls. Being a girl myself, I hate when people seem jealous around me. Also my brother's girlfriend got really jealous when my best friends would come over and hang with me and my brother or when they spent the night. I understand why she was jealous, but its not like my friend was going to steal my brother away from her or anything...

I hope this helps.
