How do I tell him I just can't do this anymore?

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, *lueatheart writes:

I was in a relationship with this guy for three years. He was my first boyfriend and I was very much in love with him. However, when I left uni, we decided to end it as I was going off travelling. He came to visit a couple of times over that summer, which in hindsight was a mistake, but at the time I was lost and saying no seemed an impossibility. It's been almost a year now. I went travelling, grew up and moved on. But he still calls or texts me everyday and wants me to go and visit in 2 weeks. I keep trying to postpone it but am running out of options. I still love him, probably always will, but can't afford to go back in time. Our lives are going in completely opposite directions. I don't want to be cruel but how do I tell him that I just can't do this anymore?

dragging it on will just keep on giving him hope. You have to sit down with him face to face and say what you feel.
