How do I know if it's really love, or if it's just wanting something I can't have?

A female United States age 30-35, *nasad writes:

I don't really know what to do. I'm an 18 year old girl and I have boyfriend who I'm mostly happy with. But my problem is that whenever I break up with my boyfriends I want him back as soon as he doesn't want me. My ex, we'll call him Lo, has recently gotten over me for another girl, and its killing me. I don't THINK I like him again, but I never know. This happens to me all the time. I think I like a guy that I can't have until he breaks up with his girlfriend or moves on, then I'm over him. How will I ever know if what I feel is real?

A female reader, Alexia1991 United Kingdom +, writes (13 February 2010):

Just my opinion; I think its wanting something you can't have.

when someone gets over you it hurts and you start to want them again,

if it was love, then you'd realise at the time, I'm sure.

So even though your ex is with someone new now then you can go out and find someone new of your own,

even if you do really like him, he has moved on, and you need to as well,

and maybe this time you'll realise you like, or love them while you're together

Good Luck xx
