A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I have a problem... D: when I started my music lessons not so long after started fancying my teacher to the point where I got a huge crush on him or whatever. Knowing that it wouldn't work out (even thought I am 18) I forced myself to snap out of it, or tried... So hard as hard as I could. And I think OR thought that managed good enough, I started being more colder to him (just as official teacher/student, no friendly stories talk like i have with my drum teacher (which is his brother O_o)), spoke only on topic and practically barely speaking to him, looking at him other than talking and showing with my whole self that I don't think he exists outside my lessons (like after lessons or before) his greetings I answer with a nod, his byes i don't answer at all... So. I would be sure for the whole week that i got over him, because i always get a feeling that i did, all happy and such i go to the lessons and BAM. My feelings wake up... I get angry after lessons at myself and try again. After my vacation, (didn't see him for two weeks or so) I came to lesson all sure that i SURELY got over him, because i have not felt any feelings for him when I thought of him. But unfortunately, this thing just got even bigger. :/ I noticed every... EVERY good detail on him, got drunk over his soft voice when he was quietly telling me to fix my fingers, hair, face, actions... I literally had to tell myself shut up few times in my head so the thoughts about him would go away and I can focus on the lesson. Good thing he didn't see my face full of dissapoint and horror in myself lol...

What can I do? I tried everything =_= IT COMES BACK! I wouldn't had problems if he liked me too, he is a great guy, I can't say I've met anyone like him. (not gonna describe). He doesn't like me, however... And I shall get over him because it's stupid to torture myself with those empty in this case feelings. I sound ridiculous, but I want to see what whoever can or has to say.

A reader, anonymous, writes (1 February 2012):

I feel for you. I have the same problem haha. But what has helped me is just verbally and mentally accepting the fact that he is attractive in many ways (looks, wit, talent, manners) and THAT'S IT! It'll get better, and of course you'll still get the butterflies, but that's only natural.

TrancedRhythmEar agony auntYes, I see nothing here. Glad you posted doll. Bit of logic here: One youre a student, and hes a teacher. This implies only a professional relationship, not personal. So, dont make it one. And the other, you said it yourself, he is not interested in you. So, back off. Attraction isnt a choice so you cant make him like you. Dont chase, dont pursue, dont initiate any outside classroom "discussions" just move on. Good luck.
