 I don't understand why you can't ask him? What's the worst thing that could happen? I'm sure if you compare it to the best you'll see you owe it to yourself to ask him!! Hope this helps.

 Ask a friend that knows you both, and that you trust. maybe they can find out for you by asking him without making it obvious that you want to know.
