Hello everyone,

I will be starting college in September and I'm getting more and more worried about this event. I used to be quite a confident person, and I still am with the people I'm comfortable with and know quite well. I'm actually quite a bubbly character and I can be a laugh to be with, with the right people, however I find it really difficult to connect with new people and I become a shy and awkward person to be around in these situations. I'm really looking forward to meeting a lot of new guys at college and I'd love to find a new relationship (I have previously been in a long term relationship and am quite concerned I won't be able to get the same kind of bond), but I'm scared I won't be able to get the initial conection because I won't know what to say, and they'll just think I'm some really shy, geeky girl and won't like me. How can I overcome this lack of self esteem before I go to college so it doesn't hold me back??

Honeypie agony auntLook at it this way, it's a new beginning with new people. They ALL are new to the experience! They ALL want to make friends.

Look into study groups and "hobby" groups when you get to college. ( like photography, theater or whatever your interests are).

Don't go look for a relationship. Take your time to just enjoy and adapt to the whole college experience. Make it a good one! It really is up to you.

Deagan agony auntSweetie, every freshman of college has those same exact feelings as you do. It's completely normal. Just go with the flow.

High school is one thing, where everyone from the same county as you is bunched up together. With college, these kids picked to go to this particular college for a reason, you're going to find out quickly that your peers are going to have the same interests as you. You already have a similar interest- the college you guys chose to attend!
