i really fancy this girl in my school. i want to ask her out. she's really shy. i talk to her on msn everyday. today i started talkin about a girl my mate fancies than i slowly asked her, she said no one. she asked about me, i said someone. she had to go and said she'll talk tomorrow. i think this is my chance to ask her out on msn. how do i say it? what if she doesn't like me? how do i cover it up?

A male reader, childof1981 United States +, writes (22 December 2006):

childof1981 agony auntIf you are going to ask her out, do it privatly and in person don't do it using IM. I also do not recommend trying to cover anything up, the only way to do that is to be ambigious about your intentions. This can leave the girl confused and wondering what she said yes or no to.

The last thing you want her doing is posting a question here asking "This guy asked me out but I am not sure if it's a date, I am so confused please help!"

Just be clear about what you want, and let her deciede what to do. Hopefully things will not get awkward if she says no, but they might and thats a risk we all have to live with.
