This question isnt really about relationship or Sex but I need help wit this one :(

I used to be on the dole and got 100 Pound a week and I gave up keep of 25 pound to my parents. a couple of weeks ago I signed off the dole and got a job. Now i get paid 200 a week and I,m forced to give up 60 pound I know its not a lot to most people but it is to me I have to keep 40 pound of that money for travel ( I have to get Lunch and a bus there and back everyday ) 50 each week away for my holiday. More money for birthday presents ( I have a lot of birthdays in June and July ) So it basically leaves me to live on a tenner for the rest of the week. Its not fair that I have to give up so much keep. I spoke to my friends about this and they say they only have to giive 30 a week and they get paid more than i do. I dont get to go out or anyting now. How can I approch my parents about this matter?

Ravenxx91 agony auntFirst of all, start making lunch - saved me loads!

Second, if you want it lowered maybe ask for like if you do jobs such as cleaning adn cooking you get whatever amount off. Like earning it x

My dad used to charge me 20% of whatever I earn, dole or work. so with 200 i had to pay £40 a week adn i think thats low and I had to get busses ect!!! You may have no money but you chose to put towards a holiday, once thats paid you'll have £60 to yourself...be greatful with £25 i wish mine was that low! x

Forget what your friends pay, they don't have your parents and whatever you do don't compare your parents to theirs or it will be counter productive.

You'd never know, perhaps your parents are putting some of that money away for you in case you're stuck sometime in the future.

A reader, anonymous, writes (5 July 2010):

Stop buying lunch and bring your own for starters, if you're paying for upkeep then you can just bring food from your house for lunch. See if you can find a coworker that will give you a lift to work. You don't have to spend a lot of money on presents either.

That should save you a nice chunk of cash.

Once you have found ways to save a bit of cash in these ways talk to your parents and ask them if they'd be willing to reduce your upkeep. By the sounds of things your parents are strict enough when it comes to money, so do what you can to save bits of cash first, if then you can manage to do that they'll probably be a lot more leniant and let you off a bit. Ask them to make it an even 50, thats an extra tenner on top of the money you save by taking your own lunch. If you do all these things then you could have 40-50 bucks to spend on yourself weekly.
