A male United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

This is probably a very unusual question to ask, but I'm just curious.

My girlfriend has always had very dark black hair in the time that I've known her and we've been together. In fact, her dark features are what I found very attractive and beautiful, she has brown eyes and olive skin tone so the dark hair was really sexy on her. Well, she went to the hairdressers last week and I had no idea she was having her hair lightened blonde until when we went to meet up for lunch. Honestly I had no idea it was her, she looks like a completely different girl it's shocking! She hasn't got proper blonde bright hair, it's a dark blonde and somehow she now looks very exotic and italian to me, I found it a bit of getting used to because she just looked so different. But I was even more attracted to her, she look so beautiful, she always has been but now even more so!! Her eyes and smile just are melting when I look at her.

Without sounding rude, I've seen a lot of girls with her olive skin tone go to any type of blonde and it never has looked right because their skin tone. Yet how is it that my girlfriend having done it, has made her look exotic?

And again, how does a hair colour change someone to look like a different girl to the extent that I didn't recognise her at first, I can't understand it?

Thanks for the advice!

What's to not understand? Hair colour, make up, push up bras, fake tan, boob jobs, spanx, clothes, all can make women look completely different, better and/or worse.

I mean if you shaved your head you'd look completely different wouldn't you? Add a beard to that and a few tattoos and you'd look like a completely different man.

What's confusing you?

In my early 20's I was a skinny dude with very long hair. Late 20's a fat dude with short hair, very receding hair line and homeless man's beard. Now mid 30's I'm completely bald and completely ripped with a goattee. It takes people a while to figure out who I am if they haven't met me since either of my changes.

OP just be glad she didn't get shit hairstyle. I once went out with a woman who had beautiful long hair that suited her, she then cut it down really short, Miley Cyrus short but she had a round face so it looked horrible on her. She looked a bit like a chipmunk and even her friends found it too hard to compliment her and she too knew it didn't work at all and it took ages for her to become happy with her hair again. It can work both ways, OP, women can get it wrong too and when they do it can be a nightmare because they care so much about how they look. So just enjoy it.

Different girls, different features, different skin-tones, different effect.

You happen to really also like this one; so you'll like any cosmetic enhancement. It will either receive a positive, or negative reaction. She knows what looks good on her; some girls don't. It's a matter of taste; and what compliments or enhances the natural features you already have.

A cheap store-bought hair-color kit done at home; doesn't compare to a professional salon coloring. Coloring by a skilled professional, makes a lot of difference.

Honeypie agony auntShe is the same girl she just changed her hair color :) Good for her that she can be both a black haired beauty and a blond one.

She even went for the "right" blond that fits her complexion.

I can dye my hair red & brown and if I find the right tone it looks as natural as my normal light blond hair. I can't do dark brown or black as it would clash with my skin tone.

Us women life to change it up a little without it being really permanent.

Tell her you find her as beautiful as ever.

Just remember black, pink or blond hair SHE is still the SAME girl.

I vaguely remember a post very similar to this about a year ago, before I even got an account.

Anyway, you get so used to seeing someone one way that, when they change their hair, you may do a double take. It happens. Just don't get funny if she changes it back again.

aunt honesty agony auntYou where attracted to her before she changed her hair therefore it is only natural that you will still find her attractive. Hair can change a complete look off a person. Some people will get away with blonde and others won't. Every girl is different. Enjoy her new look

A reader, anonymous, writes (30 March 2014):

It's a known fact that eyes and hair colour are two of the first things you notice about a person and someone changing them can change a great deal of things about that person.

As long as you stay true to your feelings instead of her physical attraction then there's nothing to worry about and it's not a problem.
