hey everyone!

i am thinking of getting my nipples pierced, just wondered if anyone had any experience of this? I like how it looks a lot but as always there's some real horror stories on the internet (picture of holes in boobs after getting an abscess due to a nipple piercing :S - ergh.) I wondered a couple things really so i'll just list them out. a piercing is a piercing so i imagine it will be painful, i don't really wanna hear to much on that cause i'll just over the top panic. here goes;

1. if you remove the piercing does it go back to normal?

2. is it quite obvious to tell when it's getting infected and stop it in its tracks, say before you end up getting a hole in your boob? aha, but seriously.

3. does it come through a normal padded bra?

4. once it's all settled and healed, can they be touched, sucked whatever it may be... ?

5. I'm a 34 DDD/E will it make them more pert?

and

6. how much smaller does it make your nipple because i hate the size of mine, they're like the size of a £2 coin and i way prefer them harder.

A reader, anonymous, writes (23 September 2016):

Well im young and do not have a nipple piercing, but truth be told my best friend went to hospital because of them. He had them in both nipples, both piercings being forcefully ripped out of his nipple on seperate situations, resulting in many hospital visits.

I personally wouldn't have them pierced.

The nipple is not like the ear lobes. They have a lot of nerve ends.As a personal opinion as a guy I find nipple or navel or pussy pearcing quite a turn off because I fear touching them during love making could cause pain or injury.

Hi

I'll try to answer all your questions but in a different order to how you asked them

Answers to questions 5 & 6 - nipple piercings will not change the size, shape or appearance of your nipples or breasts in any way. Not unless you get an awful infection and end up with a hole. It will not make them more pert or give you smaller nipples.

Answer to question 4 - yes they can be sucked, touched and tweaked once they are healed but they can't be handled too roughly as it will hurt (same as unpierced nipples)

I can't answer question 3 because I don't understand it. "Does it come through a normal padded bra?" What do you mean by "it". If you mean "can you see the piercing?" - yes often you can but it depends on the size of the jewellery you use and the thickness of the bra.

Question 2 - how to identify an infection. Localised infections cause: pain, swelling and redness around the piercing site which slowly gets bigger. It will also be hot to the touch. However, these are also the body's natural response to trauma (and a piercing is a mild trauma). So you can expect a mild degree of these symptoms immediately after the piercing but they should slowly get better. If they are not improving after 4 - 5 days you should go to your GP and see if you need antibiotics. Infected sites might also ooze blood and pus which can smell foul too - in these cases you will definitely need antibiotics so don't delay seeing the doctor.

And finally - question 1, if you take the piercing out, the site will eventually close up but there will always be a dimple or small pit in the skin. This pit will collect dead skin cells, sebum, keratin and other debris which turns into a kind of thick cheesy smelling substance which people think is pus but isn't - it's not an infection; it's normal and you just have to manage by keeping your nipples clean.

I'd think long and hard about having it done.

Andie's Thoughts agony auntYou need to ask a professional - if you can't, you're not ready for this. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but that's really what you need to do. The rest are opinions.

They can make them less sensitive, I think, though sexual things can still be done.

I don't think it really makes them smaller or "pert", just pierced....

Please, ask a professional.
