 he sounds quiet depressed and confused if he's behaving like this.
have u talked to him and asked him why he's behaving so erraticly?
if he continues u need to just give him own space and move on until he sorts his head out.

 There's no way to know without talking to him, really, it could be anything. His message and reason for breaking up was intentionally cryptic and that to me is ignorant.
Personally I think if you're gonna finish with someone you should be as honest as you can to that person without crushing them, and there's nothing worse than giving no explanation at all and leaving them hanging.
