 He probably doesn't want to seem too eager which can turn off a lot of ladies. Just up the page there is a girl asking why she doesn't like this "Perfect guy" back because he likes her, but isn't a jerk so she's not attracted to him...
If his friends tell you that he likes you, he does. My vote is that his indifference is an act, one that seems to be working.
