I keep hearing people say there are other ways to break a hymen such as bike riding or horse back riding, really how many people ride horses out of the general population. ans how often does that really happen. As for bikes, thats why female bikes were produced. And you really have to fall down pretty hard. People stretch and ride horses for years without out breaking the hymen. Why wouldn't a girl want to preserve her hymen virginity till marriage, its a status symbol. I think when when women tell other concerned girls not to worry, its because "misery loves company" phenomenon. i believe these women wish they waited till marriage or they wish they were a virgin deep down or cried when they lost there own hymen with a tampon and had to deal with it. Instead of crying and accepting the mistake they changed a mistake to a right of passage and searched for every reason to validate it as such. Preservation of innocence is a good thing.
Its like being a vegan or a person who eats right. one cigarette, a candy bar or a pork chop won't kill you, but those who refrain from it feel better and are better for not ever eating it and don't open themselves up for subsequently greater deleterious habits. Even if they pick up the habits or change diets in the future, the longer they delay partaking in questionable activities, the better off long term they will be for it.
Of course you can't have sex 'really' with a tampon, but it is a symbol of pride for some that the hymen is in tact. It represents something and if you are unfortunate to lose it by some accident then move on and accept that it was an accidental. If a girl is concerned about losing the hymen by using a tampon then the advice should be " Use a sanitary napkin". The advantage is that you are more likely to preserve the hymen. The advice i see from many women to concerned first time tampon users is " you can lose it riding a bike or a horse" What if she has never ridden a horse in her life and hasn't ridden a bike since training wheels which is most people. Once you are "deflowered" then you have plenty of time to use a tampon. Just like you can wait till 21 to drink although you are technically an adult at 16-18.
Innocence(not ignorance or naivety) is a valuable thing, more value than diamonds, so preserve as much as you can. Its better to have half a bag left then none at all.

If you horse ride, does this mean you've lost your virginity? Nope. So don't worry, until you're penetrated with a penis, then you're still a complete virgin :]

The term you were looking for is the hymen, a thin membrane which may partially cover your vaginal opening. The hymen may or may not be intact, it all depends on its size, if you are physically active, things like riding horses or similar kinds of activities may cause it to break.

No you have not lost your virginity, only if you have been penetrated with a penis means that you are no longer a virgin.
