Have I lost my 'physical' virginity?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I am 15 years old, and though sex is not intended between my boyfriend and I we are... sexually active. If that is the right way to describe it. Well recently, ever since he returned from his trip to Orlando he has been more and more attracted to me sexually. He decided to challenge, or dare me, to go 24 hours with an object of his choosing inside of my vagina. He chose a small bottle/capped case that resembled lip gloss. About five inches long and about as thick as my middle finger. I accepted, figuring since it's about the width of the average tampon, it wouldn't present a huge problem. He gave it to me later at night and instructed me to put it in before I went to bed. I went through the day, unexpectedly having to do more than the average day. I was included in activities such as: Riding in the car, Movies, Bike rides, and excessive amounts of walking. (Like during grocery shopping, etc.) When I met up with him later in the evening I told him how it was feeling and that nothing unusual had happened, though it was extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing. I asked him if I could remove it. He told me that since he had given it to me the night before around 2:00am, the deadline would have to be 2:00 the next morning. I accepted this; I decided to deal with the uncomfortable sensation for about two to three hours more. Later that night, right as the deadline had passed I went into the bathroom to remove it, and as I was cleaning myself up I saw a small patch of blood on the tissue I had used. It was barely any blood at all, but it was there. I told my boyfriend what had happened and he felt extremely guilty. He didn't want to have cost me my virginity in that situation. I believe that the act of losing virginity is when a woman first engages in sexual intercourse... when a man fully penetrates a woman when the woman is consensual to it. But for his and my reassurance only... I'm not sure if I have lost my physical virginity or not.

Thank you so much everyone. Your responses and answers were very helpful... I know what happened wasn't the smartest thing I could have possibly done, but I will be so much more careful in the future. Thank you again.

EbonyBlossom agony auntHave you heard of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome)? Not many people have. But when you read warnings on tampon packets, it always says not to leave the same tampon in for over 8 hours as it can cause this condition which is very rare but can be fatal.

And no you haven't lost your virginity =]

You are right in knowing what losing your virginity is. So no you have not. I think you may have broken your hymen though, which can happen without sexual intercourse, such as sports, dancing, tampons or inserting things you shouldn't!

Some believe that when your hymen breaks you have lost your virginity but this is not true.

In future I don't think you should be inserting anything for that amount of time, whether it causes you pain or not, as it can be dangerous.
