Gave him my number but he still hasn't called...

A female United States age 36-40, *eighga writes:

This past Saturday I went to a good friend's birthday party at a restaurant. One of the waiters was nice. He would come up and touch my shoulder asking if I need something to drink, or if I know what I want. Smiley, and good eye contact. It got my attention anyways. Finally I put my name and number with the bill and handed back to him. My friend said he nodded and gave the thumbs up when he saw it. It's been two days since this. Should I just call it a lost cause since he hasn't called yet? I did find out his name, that he was single, and age. But I was also hoping that giving him my number will open a door for him to come up and talk, he never did. But I was always in a group talking and he was working and it was busy night.

xanthic agony auntIt's only been two days, it's still too early to know for sure. As the last poster had said, he may just be giving it a few days so he doesn't come across as desperate. If you don't hear from him within a week, he's not going to call.

Reminded me of an M and B story. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about a waiter calling me. They meet hundreds of people a day out of which a good majority are pretty women. You can't and don't know anything about them. Smiling and touching the shoulders are their natural way of being casual and friendly. I have never liked any waiter touching me while asking what I wanted to eat. I would just give him a good tip and walk away.

I wouldn't wait for waiters, cabbies, doctors etc. to call me. They just appear nice to make both ends meet.

BassiveMalls agony auntBeing smiley and good eye contact when you're a waiter doesn't mean anything. Waiters and waitresses just want you to tip them bigger just like a stripper would. However that doesn't mean he didn't like you. Most guys feel they need to wait a few days before they call so they don't seem like some desperate loser. If he doesn't call within 5 days he probably isn't ever.
