It's quiet difficult but once you know the technique you'll never forget. You must learn to relax (your whole body including your throat) and trust your partner with all your heart. Once you know he won't choke you then your throat will open up a little bit more.
Breathe in deeply through your nose and swallow when you feel the gag reflex coming on. Take it slow and gentle, a little movement at a time. It should get easier with practice. You could also try changing your position, with your head over the settee to gain the maximum penetration.
As Lexilou has explained, it may be something that you never get used to and you have to settle with what your doing now. Your partner must be pleased that you try so hard to satisfy him.

 Not to my knowledge but others may say differently. Im nearly 40 and still gag, Ive even been known to throw up (not on him though!!). What I have to do is alternate deep with shallow and stop the deep action the second I feel the gag reflex kicking in x
