Does she really care, or am I being used for the time being?

A male United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

an old (and sometimes very close) friend who i have had sex with in the past has recently broken up with her boyfriend. they were having troubles for some time, but recently she has started to talk to me more and i helped her decide to end things.

She says she is interested in me, even saying she used to love me in the past. she only ever texts me though if i text her first, and i have the feeling we culd go several days without talking if i didnt initiate contact. whenever we do talk however we are really close, and i am starting to really like her. i dont know if i am just being too keen, and i should just leave her be and see what she does.

she would complain that her ex wouldnt talk to her for days on end however, so i dont know if maybe she just doesnt txt or ring ppl until they do first.

i just cant tell if she likes me or not, as her txts are usually very brief, but she will cum online to chat if i ask and we r very close wen we talk. she has stated that she would like to give things a go wen i return home for the holidays (from uni).

i would say she is just using me to get over her bf, but she seems very relieved to be free of him and we have been very close in the past, so im sure there is genuinely some feeling there. any ideas?

why does she not make any effort of contact though? surely this is a bad sign? she isnt the kind of person to lie about how she feels, so why is she being distant?
