A male United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm a skinny lad and I was wondering is this a turn-off? I mean I know some girls like guys to be teddy bears but is there really any market for us skinny guys? I'm 5'11"/180 cm and 143 pounds/64 kg and feel as though I'm not bulky enough for women to have enough faith in me to protect them.

Women besides personality, because we all know looks do play a role in a relationship. What's your stance on skinny guys?

My partner is taller and lighter than you and I love him the way he is. In saying that, I don't sit on his knee because I'm afraid I'll squish him. But the doctor says hes healthy and I think he looks good.actually inthink hes pretty cute.

boo22 agony auntDepends what you mean by skinny

If you are skinny with no muscle tone then it's not sexy IMO.

If on the other hand the skinny guy has a good toned body with muscle definition, it's the hottest look for me on a guy.

Basically a skeleton with muscles ...love it x

aunt honesty agony auntNot all women are looking for a man to protect them. My guy is skinny, but I still feel safe with him, I am independent and can look after myself. If you are under weight or unhealthy then I suggest maybe going to a dietitian or working out if you are wanting to change.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (10 July 2016):

chigirl agony auntWell, women who need a man to "protect" them, might not be the ones for you.. but I seriously doubt these women are right for anyone. A woman who is confident in herself and has her own life going on for her, and has a brain of her own, does not need a man to protect her, lol. Protect her from what exactly, we're not living in caves any longer, and you can't exactly use muscles to protect her from a computer virus.

Come to think of it, maybe that's why geeks are becoming the new sexy.. They're the ones who actually can build up my firewall and download my music without me getting my inbox spammed.

There are women out there who like skinny guys. Don't worry about it. I'd be more concerned with how you carry yourself, dress, and present yourself. Because no matter what body type, a lot of men seem to have no clue on how to wear a fitted shirt or how to buy a pair of pants that actually show off their best sides, as opposed to drowning the body in fabric. Wear clothes that FIT YOU. Don't try to hide your body, present it with pride. Oh, and do go to the gym, skinny guys build up flashy muscles like no one else, and at the end of the day, a six pack is sexy no matter what. Medium or large size men have a waaaaaay harder time at getting that six pack showing. I think only naturally thin men can do it. So embrace your body! Go out there and make those larger men jealous of you.

A female reader, Andie's Thoughts United Kingdom +, writes (10 July 2016):

Andie's Thoughts agony auntYou need to focus on if you're healthy. My boyfriend was slim when we met and I wasn't worried about him not being able to "protect" me, more about me squishing him a little because I'm bigger than him. Now, he's got a little bit of a belly because he had to be on bedrest for several weeks after a surgery and isn't able to exercise properly yet. That said, I really don't care either way because I love him.

I'm a cuddly person, so skinny (as in bony) probably wouldn't be my type, but many women don't mind/like it.

Point being, be the size you want to be - some women will be attracted to you and some won't.

CindyCares agony aunt Sexy.

David Bowie was skinny. Mick Jagger was skinny. James Dean was skinny.

Tbh, I prefer " slim " or " lean " to downright skinny, as in : protruding rib cage and you can count each vertebra. The ideal would be lean but still healthy looking. A tennis player type , say.

Yet, give me even just skinny over beefy or bulky any day of the week.

A male reader, Myau New Zealand +, writes (10 July 2016):

Myau agony auntI was also skinny as a teen and no girl would look at me. They were actually quite rude.

When I hit 19 I gained weight and now seem to get women's attention and have had quite a few girlfriends.

Wether it was just growing up or gaining weight or my improved self confidence and much nicer personality as an adult, I dont know.

But I dont think skinny is a good thing for a guy to be. lol I looked through my girlfriends diet book and choose foods that were high in fat. I love McFeasts. And I do love my belly. I hated being skinny.
