A female United Kingdom age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I've always been close to this guy at school, we were like best friends and for a while we developed feelings for each other...

After summer vacation he changed, he was more hostile and quiet. He kept secrets and wasn't himself.

Now he's almost back to his old self but when he's around other people he gives me the cold shoulder, but he's told me a lot of things that are going on in his life that I don't think many other people know about recently...

I asked if he still had feelings for me and he said no but said we always have and always will be best friends, he even gave me a hug and looked upset. I don't mind because we're still friends, but if he got a girlfriend I don't know what I'd do. I'm not sure if he knows about the feelings I still have for him though. I haven't told him because he's said he sees me as just a 'friend'.

He even sent me a really sweet message last night with my nickname that he knows makes me melt...

is there anything I can say or do without making it awkward between us?

SweetSmoochy agony auntI think, at least for now, that this guy has made it clear that he just wants friendship. He's at the age where he doesn't really know what to do with himself when it comes to girls. Give him time to figure that out!

Try not to hurt for him because you still have him as your friend. Try to perk up! Who knows? Maybe in the future you two will be ready to try dating again.
