A female United Kingdom age 51-59, anonymous writes:

Can two people of the same sex get married? My mum says yes but dad says no, and they are falling out about it. What's worse mum turned down dads marriage proposal and now he's thinking of leaving.

Mum says it's just a piece of paper. What can i do to help them stick together?

A reader, anonymous, writes (29 November 2008):

Two people of the same sex can get together but technically it's not a marriage, but a civil partnership.

As for your parents, you can't force them to be together if it makes them unhappy. If your parents do love each other then they'll stay together. They could go to marriage counselling with Relate but don't push them into anything.
