This isn't really a relationship question but i'm pretty sure you can help me.

Basically i've been wondering whether doing too much excerise can stop your period. A couple of years ago I used to do a fitness plan and it was like fifty sit ups, thirty press ups and a certain amount of jogging a day, just to tone up. But after I started my period I stopped doing it and i've lost abit of shape, so I want to start again but don't want to end up in a danger zone. Can you tell me whether it can stop your period? And how much you would recommend?

Thanks. :-)

PixiePie agony auntyes, too much exercise can stop your period, hence why gymnasts, even after 2 years of stopping, their periods haven't started again, let alone settled. any strain your womb or bloodstream has to cope with affects how much your womb lining remains thick and healthy.

light jogging, and a lower amount of stomach exercises are ok, but also diet affects it, stay healthy but don't push yourself.

Ask oldersister agony auntThe amount of exercise in your fitness plan should not interfere with your period. Yes, if you exercise too much, like too much cardio, it can stop your period and also shoot your adrenal glands but we're talking about 2hrs a day of intense cardio.

Your fitness plan sounds like a okay balance- you may want to substitute brisk walking for about an hour instead of running or run on a treadmill- running can take a toll on your joints and knees while walking can get you the same results without causing long term damage.

Also, you probably want to do about 100 crunches instead of just 50 situps- you'll get better results without putting strain on your back.

If you really want fast and lasting results and look like you have a pillates body- buy the Callanetics dvd- very campy and outdated looking (it's from the 80's) but the best work out and results by FAR. My stepmom (56yrs) has been using it exclusively for 20yrs and she looks about 30yrs old physically and I started using it about 15yrs ago and people ask me if I'm a gym rat or a dancer when I never even set foot in a gym or studio. I tell them "it's callanetics" and they go buy the dvd.

These exercises will build up your inner, supporting muscles (similar to what Bruce Lee did) and reshapes your frame, swear to GOD, and the woman in the video is like 60yrs old and has the body of an 18yr old- I was sold for life and will never use anything else. Unlike other methods of getting in shape, this one, once mastered- well, you can not work out for months and not lose your basic tone. The first time you do them, doesn't feel like you are working out, but you wake up the next morning and feel like you've been in a car wreck- works your deep, inner muscles and then outside muscles. Good luck!
