My favourite - and the only - place that I've been to in the Caribbean (not including Puerto Rico) is St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. It has to have the most beautiful name for a town in the whole world - Charlotte Amalie. The rum is cheap and on the other side of the island there's Magens Bay for all your beach and water requirements. Beautiful place.

 My favorite Caribbean island was definitely St. Bart's. The sand was perfect and the water clear- you can snorkel and see all types of tropical fish. It's a private beach and very secluded and romantic.

reader, anonymous, writes (14 October 2009): Take a trip to Tobago. The beaches are awesome. Stay close to Store Bay. And you might want to take a boat out to Buccoo reef (to do some snorkeling) and nylon pool (waist high water in the middle of the sea), you'll love it. Then you can head to the big island of Trinidad to do some shopping and some local dining.

 My personal favourite is Cap Juluca in Anguilla. A private pool suite is superb. Pure white sand beaches and shallow water. Wonderfully romantic. If you want the best food in the Caribbean I would always go to Barbados and stay at any of the 5 resorts on the West Coast and dine at The Cliff. Very good place for a proposal watching the giant sting rays come in on floodlit water whilst you are sipping a cocktail. Mmm... bliss..
