Can anyone explain generational dating?

This is going to sound like a stupid question but how do you know if you're in a generation gap relationship?

I've just turned 18 and my boyfriend of a few weeks is turning 25 tomorrow. I always assumed that we were in the same generation because we were born in the same decade (me 1989, him 1982) but according to some people, he's a generation ahead of me.

I'm a bit confused so can anyone explain?

iheartmakeup agony auntHe's not a generation older than you, he's only 7 years older than you thats not a huge age gap. Don't listern to other people. Just rememeber the important things, you love him that all that matters.
